Stéphan Denys is the eye of the Fontainebleau forest. A photographer and climber, he has been exploring the sandstone boulders for nearly 40 years, developing a special connection with these giants of unique shapes—sometimes round and bossy, other times sharp and chiseled, always fascinating.
His photos span different eras and are accompanied by texts that illuminate the context and peculiarities of each boulder. He has chosen to present not the most difficult blocks, but the most aesthetic or remarkable ones across a broad range of difficulties.
The 100 beautiful boulders selected are categorized by sectors: the forest domain, Trois Pignons, Larchant and Nemours, and then Buthiers and Essonne. Through this selection, the author shares his vision of the activity and invites us to consider the boulders from all angles.
An inspiring work for climbers of all levels!
